What it is for

A 2.5 g cleaning tablet for the inside of a coffee or espresso machine. What it removes is not limescale, which comes from the water and needs a descaler, but the coffee fat, oil and ground residue left behind by the beans. Those deposits collect in the brew group and in the channels the coffee runs through, and they sour the taste of everything brewed after them.

Using it

Place one tablet in the cleaning compartment of your machine, or in whatever spot the manual points you to, and start the machine's own cleaning programme. The machine handles the rest: it flushes the tablet through the parts the coffee passes and then rinses. Follow the programme in the manual rather than improvising, because every machine doses and rinses in its own way.

How often

We recommend a clean every week, or after about 100 cups, whichever comes first. How much you brew and the type of machine decide which of the two you reach sooner: a machine that is worked hard needs it earlier, one that makes two cups a day can go longer. The tablet only has to shift what has built up since the last clean, so keeping to the interval makes every clean an easier one.
