A brewer and a carafe in one

The Chemex Classic is a single piece of borosilicate glass: cone and jug together, with no plastic parts, no valves and nothing that wears out. The glass is non-porous, so it picks up neither odours nor chemical residue — a Chemex used every morning for years still brews neutral. The polished wooden collar and leather tie are not decoration; they are the handle, and they keep your fingers off hot glass when you pour.

How it brews

Set a Chemex bonded filter in the cone with the thick, folded side against the pouring spout, rinse it with hot water, then add your ground coffee. Wet the bed first and let it settle, then pour the rest slowly in circles so the water draws through at an even pace. The bonded filters are noticeably thicker than ordinary paper, and that is what holds back the fine particles and much of the oil: what lands in the carafe is clear, with very little sediment in the last mouthful. What you do not drink straight away can be covered, cooled and reheated later.
