Coffee beans for Jura bean-to-cup machines

Which coffee beans suit a Jura?

A Jura bean-to-cup machine works best with plain roasted beans: no flavourings and no oily coating, because both leave residue in the grinder and brew unit. A medium to dark roast gives a full cup with a good crema, black or with milk. Below you'll find beans that suit Jura machines, plus tips on grind setting and roast.

You don't need special beans for a Jura. Any coffee works, as long as it suits the grinder: plain roasted, not too oily and not too old. This page explains what to look for and how to get the most out of a new bag.

What to look for

  • Plain roasted beans only. Flavoured beans (vanilla, caramel and so on) leave a sticky film in the grinder and brew unit that is hard to clean out.
  • A dry or slightly matt surface. Very dark, shiny beans can stick in the bean container and clog the grinder over time.
  • A medium to dark roast for most Jura models. It gives a rounded espresso and a crema that holds up under milk.
  • Freshness. Fill the bean container with what you'll use in a few days and keep the rest of the bag sealed.
  • Arabica beans are softer in taste; a blend with Robusta gives more body and crema.

Setting the grinder for new beans

Every coffee grinds a little differently. When you switch beans, make a few cups before you change anything. If the espresso runs fast and tastes thin or sour, set the grinder one step finer. If it runs slowly and tastes bitter, go one step coarser. On a Jura you change the grind setting while the grinder is running, never while it is standing still.

Jura's own coffee or another brand?

Jura sells coffee under its own name, but the machines don't need it. Any plain roasted bean works, so you can simply choose on taste.

Lavazza

Lavazza Qualità Rossa and Super Crema are often used in Jura machines. Both are plain roasted blends without additives, with a full, slightly bitter profile that stands up well to milk.

Single origins and speciality coffee

Single-origin beans come from one country or region and have a more distinct taste than a blend. Light roasts bring out fruit and acidity, but from a bean-to-cup machine they can taste sharp; if you're unsure, start with a medium roast.

Beans by Jura model

Jura E6 and E8

Everyday home machines. A medium roast blend works for black coffee as well as milk drinks. The E8 offers more milk drinks, and a blend with some Robusta keeps the coffee noticeable in a cappuccino.

Jura WE8

Built for small offices, so it gets through a lot of beans. Pick one blend that everyone likes and stick with it: you won't have to adjust the grinder every time a new bag goes in.

Jura Z10

The Z10 can also make cold coffee drinks. Lighter, fruitier beans suit those; for espresso and milk drinks, a darker roast works better.

Trying different beans

Not sure what you like? Buy two or three different coffees instead of one large bag, and compare them in your own machine at the same grind setting. Note which one you keep reaching for, and adjust the grinder for that one.

Frequently asked questions about Jura coffee beans
Can all coffee beans be used in a Jura bean-to-cup machine?

Not all beans are suitable. Always use unflavoured, uncoated roasted coffee beans. Oily beans can clog the grinder, and light-roasted speciality beans can sometimes be too hard for the grinder in some models.

What is the difference between the Jura E6, E8 and WE8?

The E6 is an entry-level model with basic functions. The E8 offers more drink options and finer settings, while the WE8 is suited to heavier use and has a larger bean hopper. All three work well with the same Jura coffee beans, though the E8 and WE8 can extract more from complex blends.

Are Lavazza beans suitable for Jura machines?

Yes, Lavazza beans are suitable for Jura bean-to-cup machines, provided they are plain roasted beans without additives. Choose varieties such as Qualità Rossa or Super Crema for good results.

How do I choose the right coffee beans for my Jura?

Start by deciding your taste preference: mild or strong, fruity or earthy. Then pick beans that suit your model’s brewing temperature. A sample pack helps you find the right Jura coffee beans quickly without spending too much.

Is there a decaffeinated option for Jura machines?

Yes, Jura offers the Decaffè variant as Jura decaf coffee beans. They are caffeine-free and roasted in the same way as the regular range. They work smoothly in all Jura bean-to-cup machines.
