What it is

Melitta Barista Classic Crema is a blend of carefully selected Arabica and Robusta beans, medium roasted and sold as 1 kg of whole beans. It is at its best in the longer drinks: caffè crema, lungo and americano.

How it tastes

Harmonious is the word for it. The medium roast takes the edges off, so what comes through is chocolate, a light nuttiness and a gentle sweetness, carried by a body with some substance and a mild finish. There is no bitterness at the end to drink around. On the Café du Jour scale it is 6 out of 13, the middle of the range, which is why it takes milk as easily as it drinks black: in a cappuccino or a latte macchiato the aroma stays where you can taste it instead of washing out.
