Less limescale, less descaling

Hard water leaves chalk behind wherever it is heated, and in a coffee machine that means scale on the heating element, in the boiler and in the narrow pipework behind it. The DLSC002 cartridge sits in the water tank and filters the water before the machine ever draws it in, so there is much less scale forming and the descaling cycle comes round less often.

That is worth more than it sounds. Scale is a poor conductor of heat, so a furred-up boiler is slower to reach brewing temperature and less steady at holding it, and that shows up in the cup long before it shows up as a fault code. Filtered water also carries less chlorine and fewer of the flavours a tap can pick up on the way to your kitchen.
