Idee Kaffee Caffè Crema Aromatic is a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans that are steam-treated before they are roasted — the step the German house Darboven built this brand around. It gives the long, soft cup a caffè crema is supposed to be: rounded and aromatic rather than sharp. What sets Idee Kaffee apart happens before the roaster is even switched on: the green Arabica and Robusta beans are treated with steam. Darboven, the German house behind the brand, has built Idee Kaffee around that step. It is not a decaffeination process — the coffee keeps its own caffeine, and it keeps its aroma with it.

What a caffè crema is

A caffè crema is a long coffee pulled the espresso way: the same pressure and the same fine grind, but a much bigger cup. You get the crema of an espresso with the length of a filter coffee. It is what most bean-to-cup machines pour when you press the largest cup button, and this blend is roasted for exactly that job.

Aromatic and mild: 3 out of 13 on our strength scale, near the soft end of the range. The Robusta in the blend does the work on the crema and the Arabica carries the aroma, and between them they make a cup you can drink black all morning without it turning harsh.
