The JoeFrex knock box does one job and does it without fuss: you knock the portafilter against the bar after pulling a shot and the puck drops into the container below. The housing is natural beech wood with a classic brown finish, and inside sits a removable PVC container that catches the grounds and lifts straight out when it is full.

This is the newer version of the box. The glued plywood laminates of the old model have been replaced with natural wood, with the same stability and sturdiness, and the outer dimensions have not changed.

Will it fit your setup?

The box is not tied to a brand or a machine type. It stands on its own next to the espresso machine, so any portafilter works. The outer dimensions are 14 x 14 x 14 cm, exactly as tall as it is wide, and it weighs 1 kg, so it stays put when you knock against it. If it has to go under a wall cabinet or beside a large machine, measure the free space first.

Cleaning

Lift the PVC container out of the wooden housing, tip the grounds away and rinse it with warm water and a little washing-up liquid, then let it dry before putting it back. The wood itself takes a slightly damp cloth only: keep it out of the dishwasher and never leave it standing in water.
