What it does

A machine picks up two kinds of deposit, and they need two different products. Limescale comes out of the water and is a job for a descaler. Coffee oil and fat come from the beans: they settle in the brew group, the outlet and the pipework, where they go rancid and turn the taste stale. That is what this tablet is for.

The Café du Jour cleaning tablet weighs 1 g and is universal, so it suits almost every brand and type of coffee machine as long as you follow the manufacturer's instructions. Fully automatic machines, semi-automatic machines and espresso machines all take it. Machines do differ in the tablet size their cleaning cycle is built around, so it is worth checking the manual before you buy.

How to use it

Usually the tablet goes in the cleaning compartment or into the brew group, after which you start the cleaning programme and the machine runs it through by itself. No automatic programme? Then dissolve the tablet in hot water and clean the removable parts by hand.
