Summer Coffee is Café du Jour's own-label blend for the lighter half of the year: smooth and fresh in the cup, easy to keep drinking, and rounded enough that it never tastes watery. It is a balanced blend rather than a specialist one, so it copes with whatever you brew it in, from an espresso machine to a filter. Whole beans, roasted in small batches, with the roast date on the bag.

Café du Jour Summer Coffee

Summer Coffee is our own-label blend for the warmer months, and it is made to be drinkable rather than demanding: smooth in the cup, fresh on the palate, and round enough to stay pleasant black through a long afternoon. On the Café du Jour strength scale it comes out at 6 out of 13, below the middle of a scale that runs to 13 — lighter than an Italian espresso roast, but not a thin or watery coffee.

Brewing it

Because it is balanced rather than built around one method, it does not need a particular machine to make sense. It holds together in an espresso machine, in a filter, in a cafetière and under steamed milk. Brew it long and the fresher side leads; grind finer and brew it short and the body comes forward. With milk it will always sit softer than a dark roast would, which suits people who find a heavy espresso blend too much in a cappuccino.

Café du jour Coffee Beans

The coffee beans from Café du Jour’s own brand are roasted on a small scale by a specialist roast master. The beans are roasted and restocked weekly, so the roast date is always recent. The roast date is therefore noted on the packaging label.

Resealable coffee packaging

Whether you buy 250 grams, 500 grams or a kilo of Café du Jour coffee beans: they always come in special resealable packaging. The coffee bag features a special resealable edge so you can always seal the coffee airtight again. On the front of each bag there is a valve; this ensures that gases and air can escape from the bag without outside air being able to flow back into the bag. This way, we do everything we can to preserve the optimal freshness of your coffee!

Can you also make iced coffee with the Café du Jour Summer Coffee?

Yes. We do not sell ready-to-drink iced coffee or iced coffee powder, but with this summer coffee you can easily make your own. Brew the coffee about twice as strong as usual, let it cool down and pour it over ice cubes.

The Summer Coffee was blended specifically as a fresh, smooth coffee for summer, so it works well both in a hot cup and in a glass of iced coffee.

Do you get whole beans or ground coffee with the Café du Jour Summer Coffee?

We supply the Summer Coffee as whole coffee beans. You choose the pack size yourself: 250 grams, 500 grams or 1 kilo.

If you grind the beans yourself, choose the grind that suits your equipment. Espresso grind for an espresso machine, filter grind for a pour-over filter and percolator grind for a percolator. Filter and percolator are not interchangeable.

Which brewing methods is the Café du Jour Summer Coffee suitable for?

According to our product data this blend is suitable for a bean to cup machine, a semi automatic machine, a filter machine, a cafetiere and a percolator.

In terms of drinks it comes into its own as espresso, filter coffee, lungo, crema, cappuccino and latte. Thanks to its balanced character and fine body, the Summer Coffee can be used in many ways.

Which beans are in the Café du Jour Summer Coffee and how strong is it?

The Summer Coffee is a blend of arabica and robusta with beans from Brazil, Indonesia and Guatemala. The roast is medium and we rate the intensity at 6 out of 13, which means normal.

In the cup you will pick up chocolatey, spicy and nutty notes. It is a smooth, approachable coffee and not a heavy espresso bomb.

How fresh is the Café du Jour Summer Coffee and how do you store the beans?

Our own coffee is roasted weekly in small batches. The roast date is printed on the label of the bag.

The bag is resealable and has a valve: gases can escape, air cannot get in. That is why the packaging does not feel vacuum sealed, which is exactly as it should be. After roasting, freshly roasted beans still need five to seven days to degas.

Store the beans cool, dark and well sealed, and not in the fridge.
