In short: the product is not classified as hazardous and consists mostly of white mineral oil. It is food grade approved under NSF H1 (registration number 113276), non toxic and free of taste and smell. For cold brew, a coarse grind works best: roughly the texture of coarse sea salt or raw sugar. With a long steep of around 20 hours in cold water the coffee extracts evenly, so you avoid over-extraction and bitterness. Grind too fine and your cold brew turns cloudy and sharp, and it barely passes through the filter.

Café du Jour 100% arabica Ethiopië is a great match here: its fruity, floral notes come through beautifully in cold water. If you would rather order it pre-ground, pick the coarsest grind we offer. After steeping, strain the coffee through a paper filter and keep your cold brew sealed in the fridge.

The English Breakfast from Cafe du Jour is a broken black tea: the leaves are broken, but they are on the coarse side and partly still rolled. That puts this quality right between whole leaf and finely broken tea, which is exactly what you expect from an English Breakfast blend.

Every box holds 14 single serve drip bags. Each drip bag is a complete mini filter filled with freshly ground coffee, exactly enough for one cup of 150 to 180 ml. So that is 14 cups per box.

Using them is simple: tear the outer wrapper along the dotted line, unfold the tabs and hang them over the rim of your cup. Pour hot water in slowly and wait until all the coffee has run through. No machine needed, which makes them handy while camping, in a hotel room or at the office.

What you do get: a tin of 61 mm across and 88 mm high, with an inner lid and an outer lid. It holds roughly 40 to 50 grams of loose tea, depending on how airy the variety is. The inner lid seals it extra tightly so your tea keeps its aroma. Nice for storing tea or herbs yourself, and just as nice for putting together a gift set.

Unopened, the drip bags stay good for around 10 to 12 months. The exact best-before date is printed on every individual bag, so you can always check how much time you have left.

Each drip bag comes in its own sealed wrapper with the ground coffee inside, which protects the aroma from oxygen, light and moisture. Store the bags in a dry, dark place at room temperature and away from strongly scented products. That way your cup still tastes full-bodied right up to the end of that period. Once you have torn a bag open, use it straight away: from that moment the freshness drops off quickly.
