What is in the V60 set

This V60 set is the complete starting point for pour-over coffee: a Hario V60 dripper in size 02, a heat-resistant glass server, a pack of forty V60 paper filters and a 12-gram measuring spoon. Apart from the coffee and a kettle, there is nothing else to buy.

How you brew with it

Sit the dripper on the server and drop in a paper filter. Add the amount of ground coffee you want — the spoon holds 12 grams, a sensible dose for one mug — and pour hot water over it. The coffee drips gradually through the cone into the server below. Because the V60 has one large opening at the bottom rather than a small hole, the speed of your pour sets the character of the cup: pour slowly for a heavier, sweeter brew, faster for something lighter.

The server and the dripper

The glass server holds 600 ml, enough for one to four cups, and it is heat-resistant, so you brew straight into it and pour from it at the table. The dripper is plastic rather than glass or ceramic, which makes it lighter, cheaper to replace and far less likely to chip on the edge of the sink.

Cleaning and refills

Warm water and washing-up liquid are all the dripper and the server need. The paper filters are single use: lift the filter out with the wet grounds in it, bin it and rinse the cone. Forty filters come with the set.

Which coffee grind do I need for the Hario V60 set?

For the V60 you use a filter grind, which is clearly coarser than an espresso grind. Our customer service gets this question regularly: the filter grind is the grind for devices such as the V60, Melitta and Moccamaster.

If you order ground coffee from us, choose the filter grind option. If you grind it yourself, a particle size like coarse sea salt is a good starting point. If your coffee runs through very quickly and tastes thin, grind a little finer.

Which coffee filters fit the Hario V60 dripper from this set?

The dripper in this set is size 02, so you need V60 filter paper in size 02. The set already contains 40 filters, so you can start straight away.

Filters for size 01 are smaller and do not sit properly in an 02 dripper. So when reordering, always check the size marking 02 on the packaging.

The supplied spoon holds about 12 grams of coffee. For filter coffee we allow about 5 to 8 grams per cup, so with one level spoon you brew roughly two cups.

How do I clean the Hario V60 dripper and the glass server?

Clean the server and the pour-over filter with warm water and washing-up liquid. Rinse well, because coffee oil clings to the glass and the plastic and otherwise affects the taste of your next cup.

The paper coffee filters are intended for single use. After brewing, throw the filter away together with the coffee grounds.
