A Kir Royal is champagne with a measure of blackcurrant liqueur, and this blend works from the same two ideas. Blackcurrants and red berries supply the dark fruit; white tea and green tea, lifted by verbena leaf and lemongrass, supply the light, dry side. Red rose petals and sunflower blossoms run through the dry leaf. It brews pale and smooth and finishes clean, with no aftertaste hanging about. Loose tea, 100 g.

The cocktail, read as a tea

A Kir Royal is champagne with a measure of blackcurrant liqueur, and this blend works from the same two ideas. The blackcurrants and red berries supply the dark fruit; the white tea and green tea base, lifted by verbena leaf and lemongrass, supplies the light, dry side. The cup comes out pale and smooth, fruity rather than sweet, and it finishes clean with no aftertaste hanging about.

Getting it right in the pot

White and green leaf both scorch in boiling water, so take the kettle off the boil and let it settle to around 80°C. Use roughly 2 g per cup, about a teaspoon, in a strainer, an infuser or a teapot, and give it two to three minutes — long enough for the blackcurrant to come through, short enough to keep the green leaf clean. At that dose a 100 g pack runs to roughly fifty cups, and the leaf will take a second, lighter infusion.

Hot, iced, and worth looking at

Served hot it is light enough for the afternoon. Brewed strong and poured over ice it keeps the blackcurrant note and makes an obvious non-alcoholic stand-in at a table where everyone else has a glass. The red rose petals and sunflower blossoms are clearly visible in the dry leaf, which is part of why it works as a tea gift: brew it in a glass pot and you can see them.

FAQ
Customer Questions
What does the Kir Royal white tea taste like?
This tea is characterised by a smooth flavour with a slightly champagne-like character, inspired by the festive French Kir Royal drink. Thanks to the addition of lemongrass and blackcurrant, the tea also has a fresh, fruity undertone.
Which ingredients does the Kir Royal white tea contain exactly?
Our Kir Royal is a blend of white and green tea, verbena leaf, lemongrass, blackcurrants, red rose petals, sunflower petals and red berries. This combination provides a unique and festive taste experience.
Is this tea caffeine-free?
No, this tea contains both white and green tea and is therefore not completely caffeine-free. However, the amount of caffeine is lower than in black tea or coffee.
Can this tea become bitter if steeped for longer?
Yes, it can. Like other white and green teas, it can turn bitter if it steeps for too long or in water that is too hot. Use water at roughly 80°C and steep for 2-3 minutes for a fresh, fruity cup.
What is the best way to brew this loose-leaf tea?
For the best result, we recommend brewing the Kir Royal white tea with water at approximately 80°C (not boiling), and allowing the tea to steep for 2–3 minutes. Use about 2 grams of tea per cup (approximately one teaspoon).
