A replacement water filter for the Sage and Solis espresso machines that take the BES008 / SES008 cartridge, sold by Solis as type 700.81. It takes chlorine, lead and copper out of your tap water, so what ends up in the cup tastes of coffee rather than of the mains. One cartridge handles 50 litres; fit a fresh one at least every two months.

Details

Which machines it fits

The cartridge clips into the water tank and is fitted the same way on every machine listed here. If your manual asks for a BES008, an SES008 or a Solis 700.81, this is the one.

Sage: Oracle Touch (SES990), Oracle (SES980), Dual Boiler (SES920), Barista Pro (SES878), Barista Touch (SES880 / SES800), Barista Express (SES875), Duo-Temp Pro (SES810), Bambino Plus (SES500), the Precision Brewer (BDC400/SDC400, BDC450/SDC450), BES870 and BES875.
Solis: 115, 117, 118 and 1011.

What it does, and what it does not

The cartridge filters chlorine, lead and copper out of the water in the tank. Chlorine is the one you can actually taste, and taking it out gives you a cleaner cup from the same beans.

What it will not do is keep the machine free of limescale. Scale comes from the minerals in hard water and a filter of this type does not remove them, so carry on descaling at least twice a year. Take the filter out of the tank before you start: descaling solution will ruin a good cartridge.

When to replace it

One cartridge is good for 50 litres of water. Whichever comes first, that volume or two months in the tank, swap it for a fresh one.

FAQ
Customer Questions
Does this water filter fit in my Sage or Solis machine, and which models are compatible?
This water filter is compatible with a wide range of Sage and Solis coffee machines. It fits, among others, the Sage Oracle Touch (SES990), Barista Pro (SES878), Oracle (SES980), Barista Touch (SES880/SES800), Dual Boiler (SES920), Barista Express (SES875), Duo-Temp Pro (SES810), Bambino Plus (SES500), Sage The Precision Brewer (BDC400/SDC400 BDC450/SDC450), BES870, BES875 and the Solis models 115, 117, 118 and 1011. Always check the type of water filter your machine requires (BES008 / SES008) to ensure compatibility.
How often should I replace this water filter for optimal results?
We recommend replacing the water filter every 2 months, or sooner if you notice a decrease in water flow. One filter is suitable for approximately 50 litres of water, which is roughly equivalent to 400 cups of coffee or 1,000 cups of espresso.
Can I use this filter without it affecting the taste of my coffee?
Yes, this water filter is specifically designed to remove substances such as chlorine, lead and copper from your tap water, which can improve the flavour of your coffee. This allows you to enjoy a cleaner and purer coffee taste.
Do I still need to descale my coffee machine if I use this filter?
Yes, despite filtering chlorine, lead and copper from the tap water, limescale can still build up in your coffee machine. We still recommend descaling your machine at least twice a year. Always remember to remove the water filter before you start descaling the machine.
How do I install this water filter in my Sage or Solis machine?

Fitting this water filter only takes a few minutes. Here is how to do it step by step:

  1. Take the water tank out of your coffee machine.
  2. Remove the filter from its packaging.
  3. Rinse the filter under cold running water for a few seconds.
  4. Soak it in a bowl of cold water for 5 minutes so all the air escapes. This step matters.
  5. Push the filter into the holder at the bottom of the water tank and press gently to secure it.
  6. Fill the tank with water and put it back into the machine.
  7. Run 1 to 2 cycles of hot water without coffee to activate the filter.
