Café du Jour's own winter blend: beans from Central and South America and India, taken to a medium roast so the cup comes out warm, full-bodied and smooth rather than sharp. There is enough body in it to stay present under milk, and it is equally at home as an espresso, in a filter machine or in a cafetière. Whole beans, roasted in small batches with the roast date on the label.

Café du Jour Winter Coffee

Winter Coffee is Café du Jour's own seasonal blend, put together for the dark half of the year. The beans come from Central and South America and from India, and they are taken to a medium roast, which is what keeps the cup round and warm instead of sharp. The Indian side of the blend brings the deep, earthy weight; the Latin American beans keep it sweet and even.

How it tastes

Full-bodied and smooth, with enough behind it to come through steamed milk. At 7 out of 13 it sits in the middle of our strength scale: not a mild breakfast coffee, not a flat-out dark espresso roast. Brew it as an espresso, in a filter machine or in a cafetière — the medium roast is the reason it does not fall apart in any of them.

Roasted in small batches

The beans for Café du Jour's own brand are roasted in small batches by a master roaster and topped up every week, so stock does not sit around. The roast date is printed on the label. The bag reseals, and the valve on the front lets the gases from a fresh roast out without letting air back in.

FAQ
Customer Questions
What kind of coffee is the Café du Jour Winter Coffee and what does it taste like?

The Winter Coffee is a warm, full blend with beans from Central and South America and from Indonesia.

It is a medium roast that drinks smoothly and has just enough bite for the morning. The blend is deliberately versatile, so whether you make espresso or filter coffee, it feels at home in both preparations.

Do I get whole beans or ground coffee with the Café du Jour Winter Coffee?

You choose that yourself when ordering. You set the coffee variant and the size, with a choice of 250 grams, 500 grams and 1 kilo.

If you have a bean to cup machine, choose whole beans, because that machine grinds the beans itself. If you use the ground coffee chute of a Jura, choose the percolator grind. For a pour over filter such as a V60, Melitta or Moccamaster you choose the filter grind and for an espresso machine the espresso grind.

Filter grind and percolator grind are not interchangeable, so check carefully which machine you use.

How fresh is the Café du Jour Winter Coffee and where is the roast date shown?

The coffee beans of our own brand are roasted weekly in small batches by a specialist roast master, so the roast date is always recent. That date is on the label of the pack.

Freshly roasted beans still need five to seven days of degassing before they are at their best. On the front of the bag there is a valve that lets those gases escape without letting air in, which is why the bag does not feel vacuum sealed.

Is the Café du Jour Winter Coffee suitable for my bean to cup machine?

Yes. Choose the whole bean variant in that case, because a bean to cup machine grinds the beans itself.

The Winter Coffee is medium roasted and therefore not an extremely dark, oily bean. That is exactly what you want for bean to cup machines whose grinder is sensitive to oil on the bean, as with many Jura and Melitta models.

If your machine also has a ground coffee chute, order a second bag in the percolator grind.

How do I store the Winter Coffee from Café du Jour after opening?

Every bag of Café du Jour coffee has a resealable edge, so you can reseal it airtight after use.

Store the bag in a cool, dark and dry place, for example in a closed kitchen cupboard. Do not put coffee in the fridge, because it absorbs moisture and odours in there.

Ground coffee loses its aroma faster than whole beans, so if you buy ground coffee, keep a slightly smaller stock.
